In a panel discussion titled "Cracking the Code" held today at OMMA Metrics, several panelists have been dicussing the evolution of the measurement models over the past decade. The metrics and models are changing quickly in the digital space, and the bar is being raised for marketers' ability to understand and utilize them.
Vipin Mayar from MRM Worldwide spoke about moving from away from ROI measures and towards engagement measures that effectively compare across channels and across time. He then spoke about an effort that MRM is working on to create an "engagement score."
Well, we all talk about engagement and how it can be measured. And we all know that we are not defining engagement in the same way. So the obvious question is "What is this 'engagement score'" and why is it better than what we're working with now?
An "engagement score" is a process by which we would be able to assign points to various "engagements." So different point values (based on objectives/priority) would be assigned to different engagements and interactions (like site page or content) and then linked to outcomes. The key, Mayar claims, is to "connect metrics to value creation."
A new way to look at engagement, but will it gain traction? Tell us what you think...

What are they doing on their mobile phones for more than 2.5 hours per day??

What do mobile users do for over two and a half hours per day on their phones? It is not likely that it is to find out the the Airspeed Velocity of an Unladen Swallow, or any other educational purpose. It is more likely that it is for accessing social media channels, managing personal finances or even to rally in support of a cause (hmmm...think Pedigree Adoption Drive!).
The numbers are impressive: 91% of mobile users go online to socialize (100 MILLION access Facebook from a mobile device) compared to only 79% on a desktop. Mobile users are 1.6 times more likely to manage finances and 1.4 times more likely to support a cause.
Why? Immediacy.
Read on for all the latest and fun stats on that person next to you feverishly engaged with their mobile...

Pilot launched today: Meet Deepak Ananthapadmanabha from MOJO HD.
Mojo HD launched a new pilot online today called The Circuit. In short, I laughed out loud a few times which in todays online competitive front, is definitely a good thing.
So, it's tech news (which i find interesting) in a humorous wrapper. It's sort of like the Daily Show meets Talk Soup which isn't a problem at all for me, I mean there is plenty of room in my life for people who make me laugh!
Here is a place where I can be exposed to tech news in a creative form, while getting a laungh. I'll all over it. Meet Deepak Ananthapadmanabha

QR Codes Go Global

Here is a great article over at CScout on QR codes. It's pretty much everything you need to know (for now). QR codes are a really exciting marketing opportunity for interactive, retail and marketers in general. We're probably just ahead of the curve as far as implementing a true QR campaign, but hey -- it's good to dream and prepare, the day will be here very soon. QR Codes go global.

Shave My Yeti.
Polartec just made me laugh and i thought i'd share the fun. This isn't a new site, but it's still a good one. The whole scenario with him running through the park is just ridiculous. It's a must see.

Gaming and real life.
Check out how super cool technologies end up in video games. Also, find out where else the technologies are being used. In the end, a lot of the technologies we see in video games have lives outside the gamers realm.

QR codes hidden in video
Very sweet indeed. Remeber the Pet Shop Boys? Well they are getting some buzz again with their new video and the hidden QR codes within. For us Yanks, QR codes are bar codes that contain digital information and can be read by cell phones. (For now, just european cell phones) Driving those who scan the codes to different urls online. Pretty nifty.
check out the hidden codes:

World Golf Tour Online
World Golf Tour is worth checking out. It's an online golfing game ala most console/PC golf type games, but done using photography rather than entire 3D worlds. It's really nicely done. Fortune magazine had a full article about it here:
World Golf Tour Article
The article speaks a lot about how this game is going to have people slacking in the work place. After playing several times, i'm not sure that's entirely the case. Not yet anyhow. I'm going to keep watch for new features and social aspects that i hope appear. Making your golf team is great, but i want to be able to communicate on a higher level with my teammates. Maybe i'm spoiled though being a facebook junkie, twitter lover and xboxlive guy. Being a golfer, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
The game.

Colorful Story Telling
I stumbled upon this site, and I think it's such a nice example of using visual story telling and compelling presentation of video content to generate intense engagement, and like a 10 minute visit. If I were Norwegian, I am sure I would use this site to buy stuff and support a good cause at the same time.
